The Hazen's Notch Association acts both as a local land trust for the Town of Montgomery as well as a stewardship partner with other regional and statewide land trusts. Capable of holding and defending easements of various types, the HNA also partners with larger organizations that hold the broad conservation easement while the HNA holds a recreational trail easement, if appropriate.

The HNA works in cooperation with regional and state conservation groups as well as private foundations to assist landowners in realizing their goals of preserving family lands. Through workshops and individual contacts, the Association encourages landowners to consider permanently protecting specific resource values through legal easements. Where significant natural, wildlife, scenic and recreational resource values are present on one property, the HNA may seek to acquire that property through purchase or donation.

The HNA has created a Land Protection Fund for the acquisition of land and easements and the expenses relating to those acquisitions.

When private land is conserved, both the landowner and the public benefit from the protection of open space, and its associated natural and recreational resources.

Current projects include:

Hazen's Notch Trails Conservation Project

Three Holes/Trout River Conservation Project

>

Wade Brook Watershed Conservation Project

If you would like information about any of these specific projects or about conservation easements in general, please contact Rolf Anderson at the Hazen's Notch Association.
