Reviews
"Today's hike up to Burnt Mountain summit was beautiful. Breathtaking panoramic views at peak foliage. One of the best summit views in Vermont. Hike was moderate, not too hard but some work going uphill. We plan on coming to ski in the winter." Claudia Berger, October 2022
"The trail was easy to follow and nicely rewarding with a lovely lunch spot at the top where I enjoyed views of most everything that I explored in my week in the area. I could not have asked for better." Chip Hartney, July 2021

"We contribute every year, so happy this place is here. Beautiful and undeveloped as it should be. No crowds!" Anonymous, December 18, 2016
"One of my favorite places on the planet"
"High Ponds Farm at Burnt Mountain on Hazen's Notch is a beautifully (and minimally) managed cross-country ski and hiking area in Montgomery Center, Vermont. I'm not a skier, but spending countless hours hiking (or leisurely walking) on the trails in the summer, late spring and fall is a highlight of any day. Hanging out in the High Meadow in the Fall looking at the foliage or munching on an apple from the orchard, or in the summertime amidst the wildflowers, or sitting on a rock watching beavers swimming around in a beaver pond, or walking on a trail deep in the lush green forest, is akin to a religious experience in my book. I can't say enough about the beauty and peacefulness of this lovely place."
Janis Hess, February 2015
"Very nice location and trails. No shortage of area to explore. We highly recommend visiting for hiking and we look forward to snow shoeing here in the winter!" Dan, May 23, 2014
"Seriously. Snowshoe here! It's a wonderful place. The views are great and the trails are well-maintained." Nathan, April 27, 2014
"Well maintained. Beautiful place. Bring your dog, but don't fish there....not allowed. Great hikes. Lots of Beavers, frogs, toads, salamanders! Go hike the mountain, but wear your hiking boots, you'll need them on your way back down. The views from the mountain are spectacular!" Anonymous, November 8, 2013
"Lovely smooth trails through snowy woods was beautiful. Volunteer manager was the best. Very helpful and kind during our visit. A unique, out of the way experience I will want to repeat again." Anonymous, February 21, 2013
"We went to Hazen's Notch for snowshoeing. The price was just $5 since the trails hadn't been groomed from the recent snowfall. We were given a trail map and some directions. We got a little lost, but the trails are lovely and its a nice hike. A few extra trail signs would be useful, especially if the trails hadnt been used/groomed. Still, a lovely place to enjoy the outdoors- much prettier than the Nordic center at Jay Peak." Anonymous, March 2013.
"We enjoyed the well groomed trails at Hazen's Notch and the hike up to the summit with the 360 views of mountains all around - must be amazing in fall." Anonymous, August 12, 2012
"Thank you so much for all the camp has done for our two daughters - they have really loved Hazen's Notch. It's such a beautiful place that is so special. See you next summer." - Pixita del Prado Hill, New York
"I am so happy to have discovered this place and can't wait to come back when there is more snow! I should add that despite the lack of snow this winter the trails all had adequate coverage. The terrain is perfect - not too steep, the views are lovely and the warming hut is a great cozy place for lunch on a 0 degree day!" Anonymous, January 19, 2012
"Zen-like hike in a pristine refuge. It feels like you are a million miles away from civilization." Mr. Arturo, May 27, 2012
"In the winter, this is where we go to cross country ski. The trails are not crowded and provide both wooded skiing and great views. The fact that this is a small operation is part of the appeal for us. The trails will not be as well groomed as larger places, but the welcome and overall experience is much warmer and more personal." Anonymous, January 2012
They Treated my Nephew Like he was a Member of their own Family!!
"I recently sent my nephew Drew to their summer sleepaway camp, and I was very impressed with their entire operation. A nice man named Rolf runs and owns this camp and he is one of the nicest men you could ever hope to meet. We in Montgomery are VERY lucky to have his camp right down the road from us!!" - June 8, 2011
"Today was another spectacular day at Hazen's Notch. The sun coming through the trees creating an enchantment in the forest. It's cold - but with the exertion of the skiing it's refreshingly so. Over the years we've seen many things - rabbits, hawks, deer, foxes, squirrels, ruffed grouse. It's one of the reasons I ski alone - I love the quiet. My favorite trail - Dark Entry, over to the Beaver Ponds and then up to the High Meadow gives me a spiritual feeling of being at peace with the world. Your trails are special. They are cut in a way which respects nature, respects the environment and creates a special place for us all to enjoy. Thank you."
Bob Bonnell
"People inevitably change their environment even as they search for a balance between their needs and what nature can afford to give. When we exceed the capacity of nature's wellspring, we don't just harm the environment - we harm ourselves. For we are not apart from the environment, rather we are the environment. The sooner we understand that fact and act in a positive way to decrease our taking - to minimize our impact, the better off we and our environment will be."
